Job Description:

The Vision

Our client has been established with a single bold mission:

To reposition Darjeeling Tea as a globally celebrated, premium product that stands out through quality, storytelling, and direct market access.

The company seeks to break away from auction-driven legacy structures and instead build an independent, premium-facing brand, with deep control over sourcing and direct access to end-buyers, both in India and overseas.

Business Model

  • Focused on bulk and loose tea sales, with particular emphasis on Darjeeling first and second flush teas
  • Target customer segments:
    • Domestic: Merchant exporters, tea shops, urban distributors, boutique blenders
    • International: Importers, premium tea brands, specialty retail channels
  • Strong emphasis on product storytelling, origin authenticity, and global brand positioning
  • Objective is to short-circuit legacy distribution, focusing on value-added, branded B2B trade

Skill Required:

Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs)
1. Evangelism & Brand Storytelling

  • Use your credibility and voice to position our client as a premium Darjeeling player
  • Champion the origin story, flush-based uniqueness, sustainability credentials, and flavour/quality differentiation of Darjeeling tea
  • Co-create buyer decks, talking points, and narratives for different geographies
2. Export Buyer Development & Global Sales Network Building
  • Build relationships in UK, Europe, Japan, and the Middle East to:
  • Generate qualified leads
  • Open high-quality buyer conversations
  • Support contract development and onboarding
  • Focus especially on institutions, high-end blenders, and distributors looking for first-flush/second-flush teas
 3. Sales Operations & Reporting
 Work closely with marketing and supply chain teams to ensure fulfilment.
 Manage pricing strategy aligned to market dynamics and brand positioning.
 Develop sales forecasts, market intelligence reports, and competitor analysis.
4. Strategic Contribution
 Advise the management on evolving trends in the tea trading ecosystem.
 Contribute to product positioning, packaging (for B2B), and market penetration strategies.
 Participate in trade fairs, exhibitions, and international roadshows.

Education Required:

Must Have:

 Experience in bulk Darjeeling tea sales and trading (domestic + export).
 Deep market relationships with traders, distributors, and institutional buyers.
 Proven track record of achieving volume-based sales targets.
Good to Have:
 Exposure to international markets and global tea trading standards.
 Familiarity with customs, tea board regulations, export documentation.
Key Competencies:
 Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work in a greenfield setup
 Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
 Deep understanding of tea grades, quality, and pricing
 High execution orientation with a data-backed approach
 Strong communication skills, written and verbal
